What a GST invoice format must contain
Under the GST rules a tax invoice is not just a bill — it has a required set of fields. Miss one and your customer may not be able to claim input tax credit against it. A compliant GST bill format carries:
- Supplier name, address and GSTIN
- A serial invoice number and the date
- Buyer name, address and GSTIN if registered
- HSN or SAC code for each line
- Description, quantity, rate and taxable value
- Tax rate split into CGST and SGST, or IGST
- Total tax and the final payable amount
- Amount in words and a signature space

CGST + SGST or IGST?
It depends on where the customer is. Selling inside your own state splits the tax in half — 18% becomes 9% CGST plus 9% SGST. Selling to another state charges the whole 18% as IGST on a single line. Pick the supply type and the invoice rebuilds its tax columns automatically.
Not registered for GST?
Turn the GST switch off. The tax columns disappear and you get a clean bill of supply or cash memo — the right document for a business below the registration threshold or under the composition scheme, where charging GST on the invoice is not allowed.
PDF or Word — your call
PDF is the one to send a customer: it looks identical everywhere and nobody can alter the figures. Word is the one to keep: open it, change a line, save it as your own reusable invoice template. Both come from the same preview you see on screen.
Nothing leaves your browser
Your customer names, amounts, GSTIN and logo are never uploaded — the invoice is built and downloaded entirely on your own device. A draft is kept in your browser's local storage so you can close the tab and come back to it.
